Amish horse and buggy

While we prepared to play golf, the pictured gentleman went about his business of getting from one place to another via something that has been around a long, long time - a horse and buggy.

Flowers for a Friday

Photo: Clematis with daisy from Diane's garden of delights.

Poled House and Street Sign

Went to the dentist several days back and had time before the visit to wander down the country road fronting the office.

Young girl in flip flops

Taken at the golf course and I really don't know what Erin was doing or thinking about or trying to communicate.

Cubs best team in baseball!

Haven't made many comments about stuff recently but sometimes one can't just remain still:

Of note:

-Cubs 'best team in baseball' - so says espn.com.
At 33-21, the Cubs have the best record in the majors and one more win than Boston, Tampa Bay, the Los Angeles Angels and St. Louis.

Color me flabbergasted. And, of course, go Cubbies!

Flying Ducks and Unknown Jewels

Ducks at sunset last night as I was waiting for the last golfers; and some unknown jewels in Diane's garden - Diane says they were there when we moved in and she doesn't know what they are.

Youngsters: Emily, Erin and Ian

Lucas was back at the clubhouse while Emily, Erin and Ian were out on the course with Jim and me. Sometimes it's hard being a young man...

Dog Photo

A neighbor's dog stopped by the other morning to say hello. He was very friendly and would have loved to come on in and see what was going on inside the house. Would have been fine with me but figured Diane might just throw a fit or two, or maybe ten. In fact, I know she would have - she has this thing about long haired things that shed; fortunately, my own hair line receded a long time ago...

Photo Odds and Ends for a Rainy evening: trucks, a blond and stacked cages

Photos: big metal thing going down road on its flat side; highway 231 road crew and truck striping, or is it stripping? highway 37 blond road crew member; Boggs Lake is on the other side of these ftc's (fowl transport containers).

Photo: Lucas with places to go

It's Tuesday Memorial Week. Photo was taken yesterday morning shortly after Eric and Lucas had finished getting the golf course trimmed up for the holiday crowd. I was standing down near #1 tee box.

Photos for Memorial Day: Marty and Blooms

We honor those who have answered the call of their governments to go to war. May I humbly suggest, again, that in future wars the combatants be chosen from the 'deciders', the rich, and the powerful. Let them go have all the fun they want with their ridiculous killing machines and leave the common folk to get on with the task of making it through the day, of being good neighbors.

Fathers and sons fishing photo

Photo taken late this afternoon and I think a photo of a couple of days ago had one of the dads out there fishing all by himself - doing some preliminary investigating, I imagine.

Just a Rose

More from Diane's garden, something she calls 'just a rose'. She remembers her Mother, Vi or Violet, called them wild roses.

(Can't believe I never made it onto the blog yesterday. Home late from a long day at the golf course but that's not really new. Oh well.)

More Small Town Photos

Second story windows that offer a view of the Square. Would guess that it's been a while since anybody has watched the world from them but don't know. Might be somebody up there right now, standing in the shadows, peering out, trying to make sense of the day, or drinking a cup of coffee or maybe a martini.

Boats at Boggs Today

Diane's Garden in Bloom

Came home from the Senior League outing just now to find that the peony bud of yesterday has blossomed. Oh my... Diane tells me it is a traditional Memorial Day flower.

More from Diane's garden

Flower bud bursting.

More Small Town Photos

Photos: Bernie's son's corner pizza place; 32 after 11; and a bench on the square waiting for a weary soul, a tired body, or just some guy wanting to take some pictures.

More Small Town Photos

Mother and son walking in downtown Loogootee. Not much foot traffic yesterday while I was sitting in the Square.

More Small Town Photos

Photos taken on Square earlier today. Wonder if the Duke Energy car is the one of the friendly meter reader of the other day? Guess it probably is; don't expect Duke Energy would have more than one meter reader in the area.

FDR, Small Town Photo

Photo: Old car (well, maybe not that old) on Church Street. Spent time sitting in the Square while Diane shopped; took a lot of photos. Interesting stuff.

Watching American Experience. Tonight, FDR. Great man. Superb program. He died when only 63 years old.

Monday Morning Photo

A picture for a Monday morning: lighted windows across water.

A few Photos from a wedding anniversary celebration

More St. Mary's Road Walk Photos

More of the photos from a Friday walk in the neighborhood: a curious horse, a Mustang for sale, a red flag and a wave, and a friendly meter reader who said it was a lovely day to be taking pictures (I agreed).

St. Mary's Road Walk of May 16th

A few of the pictures taken on my walk down St. Mary's Road yesterday just before noon. More later; got to get to the golf course - scramble in just a bit.

Innocence, A Walk to Beautiful, Pretty Girls

Of note:

-resignation from adulthood: photo from hongkongdailyphoto.com along with a letter of resignation, resignation from life as an adult. The desire is to return to the innocence and carefree existence of an eight year old. Well, we have a grandson turning eight shortly and I heard that he complained mightily just the other day for being kicked out of the house, along with his brother, by his mean older sister. For five hours. That took me back to when I was just a youngster and my own dear mother, and in fact all the neighborhood mothers, insisting that we go outside and play, it being such a nice day. And remember, no such thing as televisions and computers back then. We did go outside and play; didn't need much encouragement though guess moms thought differently.

-breakfast at The Cabin - good food and good company and the Catholics were there and in good form. A photo album of pretty girls was being shared, from the high school prom of a few days ago or a few weeks ago. I got a peek - Brittany, for one. Pretty girls.

-Watched A Walk to Beautiful on NOVA last night. Set in Ethiopia, young girls damaged in childbirth are shunned and hated and left hopeless. The Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa gives them new life with the repair of the fistula. One young girl, maybe eighteen or nineteen, referred at one point to the time when she was pretty, meaning when she was maybe ten years old. Guess one gets older faster over there in Africa. By our standards, she was still very much a very attractive young woman. Excellent program.

-Do you think you would like to be eight years old again? An innocent? Remember, you wouldn't be able to do adult things; wouldn't even be remotely interested in doing adult things, except maybe wanting to stay up to whenever, not being sent to bed, or outside, by a big person.

Photo for a Friday morning

Photo: Flora hugging (overpowering?) solar walkway lamp. Taken yesterday afternoon from just outside the door while I stayed close to the house - under the eaves, avoiding the rains that were with us most of the afternoon and evening.

Breakfast with the Batemans in just a bit - at the Cabin because we haven't seen the Catholics in a while. They just got their church all put back together after painting; one of the lads across from the golf course got himself married there just last Saturday, that being the first event there post renovation.

(Diane was just in the kitchen about to get herself another cup of coffee. I thought maybe she wasn't remembering that we were going out to breakfast in just a few minutes, about ten actually. Reminded her and she hadn't remembered. Oh dear, she said. Like the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland: I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date. I best go myself...)

Flora loves the rain

We've been getting plenty of rain this Spring and the plant life all around us love it. Diane's clematis and mint and vinca thriving.
