At Kings’ Island, outside Hanoi, our caddies seemed to have learned all they needed to know. Diana and I played nine holes on the Lakeview course...Hmmm. Wonder who those golfers might be... Maybe us in another one of our parallel lives - I'm thinking of Richard Bach's idea of alternate lives that he describes in his One.

Lets go golf in Vietnam...
Can't play here with the snow again covering the course so why not take a trip to Vietnam and play there? NYT Travel section provides the commentary. From the article:

Solar Farms, Red Road, The Jackal
News and Other Stuff of Note:
New solar farm going up near Phoenix. Will take up three square miles of desert and eventually provide energy for 70000 home. Completion date: 2011. Great idea. Let's do everything we can do to keep the sun shining...
Afternoon movie: Red Road. A honey set in Glasgow , Scotland (third most populous city in the United Kingdom at 1,700,000) which won the 2006 Cannes Jury Prize. 'Taut thriller' with a very satisfactory ending which includes a bit of tearing. Wouldn't call it a love story though does have a bit of lust in it and the use of sex to trap an unsuspecting male. Now that is new and different...
Evening movie: The Jackal. Shoot em up adventure with Bruce Willis, Richard Gere and Sidney Portier. In the end everything turned out and the bad guys met terrible ends and the good guys walked off into the sunset. However, lots of weak moments in this movie - scenes, script, acting. We were both kinda glad when it ended...

While it snows: Corn Flakes, Shoals Library, Hillary, Ho
Back in 1897, the corn flake was introduced. wired.com has more in an article which talks more about the two very different brothers, one a very successful and innovative doctor, the other a very successful and innovative salesman.
In this week's Shoals News, and item about the Shoals Public Library and its March drive for donations. Did you know that the Shoals Library is the last library in Indiana to hand stamp circulation documents? Could be time to upgrade to an automated system though if you like quaint, then... Send your donation to Gamma Iota Chapter, P.O. Box 293 in Shoals.
Political pundits who have done the math are wondering if Hillary knows what she is doing. They claim her chances of winning the nomination are just about nil and since she continues to go after Obama she thus becomes a foil for the Republicans. Wonder if they remember the John McCain story of these last several months, you know, when he was left for dead as Romney and Giuliani and several others whose names I don't remember got all the press and all the money and McCain just plodded along without money and without staff? And anyway, it ain't over till the fat lady sings, and she hasn't even come on stage yet...
Finished David Halberstam's little volume on Ho Chi Minh this morning. Excellent little essay and left me wanting more. Ho was a giant in the 20th Century who as a young man recognized that the way to take down the imperialists and the colonialists was to get them fighting a war a long way from home which would sap their military strength and sour their populace. Of course, his main concern was the independence of Vietnam, something which he brought to pass though failed to see as he died in 1969, six years before the American War in his country ended. Would expect that a lot of Frenchmen and a lot of Americans would not agree that Ho was a giant but rather a sneaky little devil who refused to come out and fight like a real man. He was much more of a nationalist than he was a communist.
It's snowing cats and dogs out there. Time for a round of golf down in Bermuda or Cartagena.

On the road
Down to Jasper with Diane after breakfast at the Cabin where we missed the Catholics (it's not Friday yet) but did run into the American Cancer Society, local branch, with the likes of Nancy and Julie and several others. They are selling daffodils so don't forget to get a hold of one of the people involved and order your little bit of sunshine in a vase.
World turns though I expect it's not on a dime or even two...

Movie: The Holy Land
Netflix gave us two movies yesterday (we're so lucky - two movies plus late night election news!). During the early evening hours we watched The Holy Land, a love story set in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem with the explosive tension of the political situation (brotherly hate) ever present though under wraps for the most part. Good stuff though not excellent and it does not end with the lovers heading off into the sunset hand in hand.
World turns and looks like today is going to be the best day for golfing in the next several. Jeesh...
