Mystery Golfer Richard Swayze

Richard Swayze, long time golfer, Community League guru, super Senior League sub and one of our June 2nd Mystery Golfers, then and now. If I remember rightly, Richard served in France in the early to mid '50's. That would be the then. The now picture is from this spring on a cool day at the golf course when he was playing golf with Jack Lents and Jim Bateman, probably a league event.

Mystery Golfer Joe Gray Then and Now

Joe Gray, our Mystery Golfer of June 7th.The now picture is from this summer and I am pretty sure it was taken on #1 green just after Joe made a putt. The then picture? Hmmm, hard one. Thirty something , Joe? Forty?

More Mystery Golfer Then and Now

Our own Sam Potts, June 24th Mystery Golfer. Let me see, Sam the young man of sixteen? fourteen? The gentleman Sam next to that very young man is from earlier this summer here at Lakeview after Senior League play.

Mystery Golfer Marty

Mystery Golfer of a very few days ago: Number One Son, Marty. Looks like a photo of him at Wild birds Unlimited in the not too distant past.

First Requested Mystery Golfer

The year is 1984 and the place is Ft. Myers. Anyone care to guess who it is?

More Mystery Golfer Then and Now

That would be me, one of the Mystery Golfers of May 31st, somewhere in Germany in the summer of 1961 where I had gone after graduating from Notre Dame. The sequence went something like this: graduation from ND early in June; say good bye to family and Diane and drive off with a friend to Brooklyn; move to uncle's place in Greenwich Village and hang around for several weeks; take slow freighter to Amsterdam in latter part of July. Hang out in Frankfurt near where big brother is stationed with the army; return to States in October after receiving my 'get-your-physical-notice' from the draft board; get serious with Diane while investigating other ways to serve; propose to Diane and sign up to go to US Navy Officer Candidate School. (Hmmm, got to stop this somewhere...)

The other picture is right here in Loogootee at the golf course after making eagle at #2 with the Boyz a few weeks back.

More Then and Now with Mystery Golfers

Wilma Bateman was our Mystery Golfer on May 31st. Here she is in a very recent pose out at the golf course and one not so recent. A long and lean lady then and now.

Mystery Golfer Update

A little then and now with the likes of Joe Doyle, our June 5th mystery golfer. We knew that young and handsome soldier was in there somewhere. The dates of the pictures: 2007 and around about 1955.

Mystery Golfer

Picture: Hey! Another mystery golfer from our senior league!

Happy Monday morning! And yes it's way too early for me to be up but that kind of thing happens when you spend the previous two mornings getting up at 4:30 to get to a golf outing in a different time zone. BTW, news is that we are going eastern and probably this fall. More nighttime daylight. Gonna be playing golf till bedtime - that means you won't have to do the sit-in-the-chair, fall-asleep-in-front-of-the-tv thingee. Or else become a night owl.

Looks like an awfully good day to go play golf, maybe an awfully good week. Pulling together the news for Larry's paper (another btw: see that Larry had a pretty good day Saturday with a scramble win and two hole prizes.) More later.

Mystery Golfers

Picture: Another senior league golfer.

Mystery Golfers

Picture: Here's another one of our mystery golfers.

News from Washington: War to continue; no timelines, no benchmarks, blank check being sent to White House. Grrrrrr. War is stupid and deadly. Jeesh. It does not have to be this way, folks.

Diane just told me that #1 son, Marty, called to remind her that twenty-five years ago today he graduated from high school. The Shoals News helps us to remember. Time is slipping, slipping away. (I suggest you go golf while you can.)

Run to Bloomington today. Movies from Netflix sitting on the table. Pile of rock for a new path outside our door. Big weekend coming up. TR wanting attention - he's in his mid twenties and a politician in the New York State Assembly now (you remember I'm reading Mornings on Horseback, right?). And yes he's making waves; he will not just sit down and be quiet.

Reminder to our Senior League golfers: Start with a chipping and putting contest tomorrow morning at 8:30; nine holes of golfing follows that; then the pitch-in luncheon. Bring your A game and your goodies.

And today: another good one for doing stuff outside: move rock, cut grass, play golf.

Mystery Golfers

Picture: It's the little guy on the left that is a current member of our Senior League.

You can make your guess by clicking on the 'comments' below (someone mentioned to me that they had trouble trying to post a guess - keep trying - I just checked it out and it seems to be working a-okay).

It's beautiful out there. In a little bit, Diane plays Community League with grandson Lucas. At the moment, she and Lucas are the only 'grand' relationship in the league. If you have a grandson or granddaughter interested in playing, and you're interested in spending some quality time with that youngster, take the plunge. It'll be grand for the two of you.

More later.
