A little frayed in places and downright decrepit in others but still having more than a hint of the glory that was this Spring and Summer.

So is this a pale pink or a light pink? I'll take either since I like the 'intended' meanings for each of them. From here:

Lots of apples on our one apple tree this year. They're organic and looking good. Anybody want them?

Lucas is a champion, summer lilies photos

Lucas and the North Daviess 12 year olds traveled to Eastern Green for a Friday through Sunday baseball tournament and the boys from the Odon area brought home the trophies. Lucas did himself proud with clutch hitting throughout the weekend. Congrats, Little Buddy (yes, I know, not so little anymore...).

Another color of lilies in Diane's garden, these a pale lavender. Pretty.

Sunflower

One of the blossoms on the sunflower planted by the birds just off of our patio west of our house. Seems to be bursting with stored sunshine.

Diane's birthday

A little more color from Diane's garden this morning. She's out on the west coast with her sister, Victoria, who celebrates her birthday on the 30th. Imagine they will find something appropriate to do to mark the passing of yet another year.

And a volunteer Cosmos. Diane is winging her way to California today for a week with her sister. Lovely part of the world out there on the California coast just south of San Francisco.

Tigers and Furry Moths and Buffalo Gnats or Biting Midges...

Furry moth visited us at the clubhouse yesterday. Eric said it looked very ferocious when it stood up and extended itself. Hope it likes those nasty gnats - Tracy Rayhill said they are Buffalo gnats from Canada. What in the world are they doing down here? Here's an article which will give you lots of information but not much hope. The author claims that water temperature is decisive - over 66 degrees and the larvae all die. So our cool and wet Spring may be what has brought the little beasties our way. He also claims that there really isn't an effective spray against them. Well, we have a lot of golfers trying a whole lot of different things to disprove that. Vanilla extract has helped me. Diane just got home from her Community League round with Shirley Jeffers - they both did terrible because of what the Bedford paper (Diane reports) are calling 'biting midges'. She says whatever they are, they are still doing bad things. Morris Cornelius brought them some Avon Skin So Soft which worked...

Update: I think covering up is the best idea (or not going out but that's no fun...). So, have you thought of wearing a burka yet? I'm sure there is one that will fit your sense of flair and style.

I love the orange of the Tiger Lilly this time of year. Diane has some blooming in her garden right now - she let me know first thing when I got home last night.

Monday Flora

The showy white flower of the clematis is evolving into an orb with multiple tentacles.


I love these wild flowers that are all over the place this time of the year. Part of the daisy family. Here they commingle with mint and other green things.
