Bob Gilley, Golfer and Friend

We say goodbye to Bob Gilley who passed away this past Monday morning, a golfer and a friend, who decided some time last spring that he was going to play at least one more season of golf. And that he did, and he did it with style. His cancer early on hampered his game and his score showed that. But then he got the hang of it, conserving his energy, getting himself ready, pushing the disease into the background. He started playing like the Bob Gilley of just last year and then continued playing that steady way till season's end. He couldn't play as much as he did in the past, nor as much as he would have liked to. But he did come out and play with the Tuesday Men, did get around and fire that ball towards the greens, did take away his share of hole prizes and pars and birdies, did share time with his friends. He also found time to stop at the clubhouse and kid around with Diane, and then with me when I got there as he was finishing up, always kidding me about finally getting around to doing a little work. To this man, whom we already miss, we say goodbye and journey well, friend.
