Dave Strange Bags Another Hole-in-One

Dave Strange, one of Lakeview's seniors, played in and amongst the Tuesday Boyz this morning, and got himself a second hole-in-one for the year. His 5 wood shot off the tee at #3 hit the green, bounced once and then dropped into the cup. This is Dave's third career hole-in-one, second this year, and was witnessed by Mike Anderson, Albert Kavanaugh, Jim Fox and John Walker who were coming off of #5 while playing in the Tuesday Boyz final event of the season.

Dave Strange's Other Hole-in-One

When Dave made his hole-in-one the other day, word got to us'ins in the clubhouse that he already had a hole-in-one and that the public notice of that achievement, the brass plaque on the clubhouse wall detailing the event, had somehow got waylaid. Well, getting around to digging around (and with a little help from good neighbor Jack who told me it has been in the recent past that it took place), I found the news article from back in the spring of 2005:

Dave Strange Gets a Hole-In-One

Friday, April 8th, one of the nicer days this Spring of 2005, brought joy and amazement to a 72-year old golfer at Lakeview Golf Course in Loogootee. Dave Strange, accompanied by Fred Elliott, was teeing off at hole #7. Using his 5-iron, Dave sent his ball straight and true toward the green, and told Fred, “That ball looks hot!” It bounced once and Dave was fairly certain the ball had rolled on past the hole. As he searched for his ball beyond the green, Fred found it in the cup. A first time ever hole-in-one for Dave! (This could be one of those things the boys talk about at the Dairy Queen every morning.)

So, our apologies for the delay, Dave, who btw now joins James Hager and Ron Wilde with his name on the wall not once but twice. Website (here) has also been updated...

D.J. Harder Rocks with Ace at #7!

On a hot and steamy afternoon this August 8th of 2007, D.J. Harder forsook the comforts of home and got his grandma, Clara Harder, to take him golfing out at Lakeview. And what good fortune might come of that? Well, how about a hole-in-one just for the heck of it. D.J. struck his Callaway Big Bertha Red golf ball with his Cleveland Hi-Bore 8 iron, watched it hit on the fringe of #7, bounce on the green and roll into the hole. Easy as one, two, three. D.J. and his grandma did a little bit of celebrating out there next to the lake to mark the occasion. D.J. becomes the tenth golfer to gather in an ace this year at Lakeview Golf Course. How sweet it is.

A Brief Respite Then Lets Do It Again...

Picture: D.J. Moffatt of French Lick shortly after his ace on #7 (his 16th hole played) today.

The break in the weekly hole-in-one antics lasted less than twelve hours as D.J. Moffatt from French Lick threw one down at #7 earlier this morning. Playing with Tom Babbitt and Bob and Rog Phillips, D.J. used his Cleveland sand wedge to loft the ball onto the green and into the cup. Once striking the ball, he immediately announced to his partners that it was going in. And, by golly, it did. Sweetness. The shot was witnessed by four Bloomfield ladies up on #8 tee box and also by Bill and Norma Harp next in line on #7.

Judy Walker Continues the Streak with Ace on #7

On Friday, June 22nd, Judy Walker watched her pink Maxfli Noodle ball land on the green and roll towards the pin, then heard it hit the pin but could not tell whether it dropped in the hole. She told her playing partner, June Eckerle, that she might have just got a hole-in-one. Once on the green, they both looked in the hole and saw the ball nestled nicely in the bottom. High fives and big congratulations. The ace was Judy's first and she continues Lakeview's streak of hole-in-ones, this being the sixth week in a row that a player has come up with an outstanding shot from the tee box that found the bottom of the cup. Judy, you're an Ace now. Welcome to the Hole-in-One Club.

Scott McAtee, it's Saturday morning in Bangkok...

Update 10:20pm: added picture of Scott McAtee shortly after his ace on #7 today.

...but Friday afternoon here in Loogootee. And Scott just got himself a hole-in-one out at #7. Holy Cow! The good stuff just keeps raining down on us here at Lakeview. It's a little early for the 5th Ace-on-a-Saturday streak but what the heck, we'll acknowledge it and let the good times keep rolling on.

The particulars: Scott, 15 year old son of Steve and Stacy McAtee of Odon, measured the 115 yards to the hole at Lakeview's #7 just perfectly about 6pm this afternoon. Using his Ping eye 2 pitching wedge, he struck the Callaway Warbird ball and weatched as it sailed directly at the stick. Playing partner Matt Tucker said: "That looks like a good shot". It bounced once on the other side, spun back and dropped into the hole. Scott, Matt, and Clinton Burch, the third member of the party, were momentarily stunned at this very nice turn of events but recovered quickly enough to congratulate Scott and to spread the good news. Indeed Scott had a very nice shot and now joins the ranks of those fortunate few with golfing aces.

Reminder to Satuday-at-Lakeview golfers: We will still be looking for that streak to continue. Numer five is on the horizon. Lets go get it.

It's Derek Gilbertson with the Ace Today

Picture: Derek Gilbertson holding up the ball that found the hole on #7 for his ace.

For the fourth Saturday in a row, an ace is to be had here at Lakeview Golf Course. Today it was Derek Gilbertson, 26 year old Loogootee golfer who did the striking of the shot that found the hole. Playing with the Dave Wininger scramble team, he watched his shot on #7 bounce once on the green, hit the stick, bounce back and to the left, then spin back into the hole. Holy Cow! Is this getting unreal enough yet? For the record, Derek was using his Acuity gap wedge and hitting a Pro V1 from about 115 yards. He also thought twice about his club selection and actually went back and got out the gap wedge. Smart. Very smart...

Scramble Results (and yes that Gilbertson ace made the difference):

1. Dave Wininger/Derek Gilbertson/Curt Johnson/Cam Sheetz/Charlie Sheetz (-8)
2. Mark Sherer/Tyler Kidwell/Kerry Wagler/Jared Butcher (-7)
3. Mike Kidwell/Wayne Souerdike/Lee Wininger/Bryant Trambaugh (-2)
4. Mike Bird/Larry Hembree/Joe Allen/Joe Doyle (-1) (the story tellers...)

Hole prizes: Cam Sheetz, Tyler Kidwell, Derek Gilbertson, and Kerry Wagler.

Skin Match Results:

Players: Sherer-Kidwell, Mike-Kidwell, Tyler-Bird-Hembree-Johnson-Gilbertson

Skins:

#3: Mike Kidwell - par
#4: Larry Hembree - birdie
#5: Tyler Kidwell - net eagle
#6: Derek Gilbertson - net eagle
#7: Curt Johnson - birdie
#9: Mike Kidwell - birdie

Wininger, Walton, Hand and Who?

It's Saturday at Lakeview and that means good golfing and yet more opportunities to get one of those elusive hole-in-ones. Today we go for a fourth Saturday in a row with one here at Lakeview: Dave Wininger started things off with his shot on #2 three weeks ago in the morning's scramble; Bob Walton followed that with a Community League beauty during afternoon play two weeks ago; and last week Becky Hand popped one in on #9 while hurrying to complete a round ahead of a gathering storm. Nice run of Saturday fun. I suggest we keep it going today. Any takers?

My Oh My Another Hole-in-One

Picture: Becky Hand at Lakeview a week after her shot at #9.

Just learned from Becky Hand that she slam dunked one off of #9 tee box last Saturday afternoon, that would be June 2nd, which makes it the third Saturday in a row that the Golf Goddess came a-visiting here at Lakeview. Wow! I would say that is just something else. Tomorrow? Make it a fourth Saturday in a row? Why not. Could even b e you, or me.

The particulars:

In a foursome that included her husband, Philip Cline, and friends Kathy and Alyn Zollers, the little lady from Vincennes teed it up at about 6pm with the idea that she had to hurry as the storms with thunder and lightning were heading in from the west. Taking no time at all, she set the pink ribboned Titleist HT 90 ball on the tee, reared back with her Titleist 3 wood, and smacked it with a swing that sent the ball off and directly into the hole. Slam Dunk! Surprised everyone in the party, none more than Becky Hand, who now has her very first hole-in-one. How sweet it is.

Holy Cow! Bob Walton Aces #2

Picture: Bob Walton just after his ace on #2 this afternoon.

Bob Walton, playing his Community League round with son Tyler, and in company with several other family members, surprised himself and everybody else in his party when his grandson Tucker went over to see if his tee shot had gone in the hole at Lakeview's #2 green. Tucker looked in, then looked back at PawPaw and said, "Yup". So, here we go again. It was just last Saturday morning that Dave Wininger threw one down at #2. Now Bob Walton. Holy Cow! Two double eagles at this par 4 within eight days! Unparalleled! Unheard of! Amazing! Life is just plum full of serendipity. And that is very cool.

BTW, Bob and son Tyler finished their round at 39 and 37. Pretty good shooting by this dynamic duo. Also, this is the Community League's first hole-in-one, first of many we would hope.
