Standing Tall

One of my Great Blue Heron buddies keeping an eye out for the likes of me and the possibility of a midday snack. Lots of rain these last seven days have filled the spillway releasing water from Boggs Lake. For the Monochrome Weekly Theme. More b&w's from around the world here.

Hard to believe they can get a fish down that gullet.

He looks like he's built for grabing fish out of the water. Nice photo.

Fascinating animals those birds! I wouldn't want to come close to one that is angry.

Great capture! They have such improbably long necks, quite amazing really.

PS The loon just ignored me, hanging around until he was ready and then diving again. It really was something special.

The heron looks as though he's posing for you. I love the texture of the water as it rushes by.

Great shot! I see from your profile you went from S. Bend to southern Indiana. I went the other way, from Evansville to Indy to South Bend.

May be they just go for the small fry! A wonderful shot before he saw something tiny?
