So what is it about Camelot?

I was thinking about Camelot today and wondered what was so enchanting. In the end, Lancelot is banished to France, Guenevere hies herself off to a nunnery, and Arthur, who protests he loves them both dearly, is left at home with his shattered home and a bastard son who wants to do him no good.
