Fast Internet Service Down

Just after noon yesterday, our broadband internet connection went somewhere and has not returned yet. Number One son, Marty, did walk us through our connections and found them to be a-ok. That meant we had to contact Verizon and get them out to fix the problem. I dreaded the hassle but, much to my surprise, it wasn't a hassle at all. After going through an initial check of the system with a lad in India (he couldn't tell me exactly where, just South India), he determined that we needed to go up the system and get someone out to our place. Another lad, this one sounding like a local (here in these United States somewhere), came on and set up a broadly parametered appointment, like anywhere between 10 am and 6 pm, and someone over eighteen had to be at home. Told him we would arrange that, could do that. Three hours later, the really local guy called saying he was heading up Highway 231 and wanting more specific directions. Gave them to him. He showed up, did a quick diagnoses, went back to the office, confirmed his suspicions and let us know that the problem was in the line, some three mile stretch of it, and the crew would be looking for said problem tomorrow. So, we're stuck with dial-up, the slow way to connect to the world of cybers. Guess we can handle that for a bit, but please, gods and goddesses of the cyber world, no longer than a little bit.

Glad you're back - did you test the speed of the connection yet? I wonder if they routed you through a different way. You can go to this speed test to check it out.

I checked it - 370 kbps down and 140 kbps up. Guess living at the outer extremity of a hub line has its downside. However, that's a whole bunch faster than one tenth that.
