We have quite a few of them this year helping keep the bug population down. Interesting bird, the killdeer - here's a new word for you - precocial. Means the hatchlings are
able to see and run around following their parents looking for food after they
are born . Most birds are born altricial and utterly rely on their parents to
bring them food.
And they have that high screeching song that you can here for long ways. And their nests are like nothing - open ground or in the rocks. Their eggs look like rocks. Cool.
