Trimming the Nets
A young cheerleader takes her turn at trimming the nets after her team's victory in a big basketball game (Girls Semistate here in the land of Hoosier Hysteria). This photo for the Monochrome Maniacs out there, many of whom make a habit of displaying a weekly b&w at Aileni's.

I have learned something - I thought they just leapt about looking pretty.
Cool shot and I like it in black and white. Something very classic about it.
That is a great shot. Yes, very classic.
You learnt me something, Michael. I didn't know that practice.
Perfect in B&W.
great shot, and I love how you captured her concentration
I like reading comments. Alieni's made me laugh. I too had no idea they actually did this. Possibly the only image I will ever see of a Cheerleader not chearleading. Interesting.
I grew up in the US and never heard of trimming the basket. On the other hand, I don't think I've ever been to a basketball game, so I suppose it isn't surprising that I haven't.
Is it a commemorative thing?
Trimming the basket is a very new expression to me. What does it mean?
Nice monochrome!
I agree with the other comment's, you learn something all the time.
Aileni's made me smile too.... :-)
Actually the more common phrase is 'trimming the sails'. 'Cutting down the nets' is a time honored tradition, at least here in Indiana, that goes with winning an area championship during the annual state tournament, an event that takes four different steps: sectionals, regionals, semistates, and finally the state finals. There are four different classes here in Indiana, as well as a boys and a girls tournament, so it makes for a lot of net destruction every February and March. Which is good for net makers...
Must of been a big win, normally don't see this happen at regular games.
Wonderful shot .. tells a story and isnt that what our photos should do?!
Trimming the nets? Do they get damaged?
Lovely shot.
Unique choice for today's meme...I love how you captured her pretty face - it shows such determination while she's going on about her job!
