Sunday Funnies

Picture: West Boggs Boat People - taken in the gloaming last night as I waited for the last golfers to come in before the dark.

-from an ad for a Nora Ephron book in the May 7 edition of The New Yorker: "When your children are teenagers it's important to have a dog so someone in the house is happy to see you." Of course one could take up golf - golfers are a happy bunch and always happy to see other golfers.

-from the same issue, news that the Mayor of New York City has proposed a "congestion tax". Those wishing to drive into congested areas are going to have to pay for that privilege. But what struck me was data supporting the Mayor's request: average speed of vehicles on 42nd street from 10am to 4pm is 4.7 mph; down near the approach to the Queens Midtown Tunnel that drops to 2.5 mph. Hey guys you will get there faster if you walk! I would suggest they ban all private vehicles.

-from the online edition of the magazine, article on Presidential primaries and this on doing something about the Electoral College:

"...Sometime in the next few weeks, Governor Martin O’Malley, of Maryland, will sign a bill making his state the first to pledge itself to the fledgling National Popular Vote plan—a proposed interstate compact that would confine the electoral college to a ceremonial role, like the Queen of England’s...." And make our vote count no matter where we live. Good idea.

Time for breakfast with Diane. It's sunny and beautiful out at the golf course. Head on over and play a round. It's good for you.
