Crosstie Freight Cars

Just a couple of blocks west of the Square in downtown Loogootee, these freight cars transport one of our local products: crossties. Note the cars are filled almost to the brim. For the Monochrome Maniacs in the world. More b&w's from around the world can be found here.

Last time I was on a train was eleven years ago - yet that scene brings back the sound and smell. Good choice, good pics.

We live near by a reapir yard for trains. We can hear a lot of noises from down there - but we can`t see them. I am sure there are some freight cars there to. Cool in monocrome :)

Have a great week :) Greetings from Norway :)

I've always noted that mechanics were perfect in B&W, it attracts the attention on details.
Well, Michael, if crossties are the wooden bars on the railway, then they need one an other. If one of the both is missing, all the traffic is disrupted.
I've experienced this last friday, going by train on holidays. 1h3O of delay because one rail was deteriorated ! At least, in France.

I love these shots. The freight cars are such a great subject for monochrome.

Even just veiwing virtually conjours up smells and sounds of yesteryear. Even more evocative in monochrome.

There's so much going on in both these shots, but my favourite is the second, with all its lines and patterns.
