Center of Attention: Clinton B.

Check out this photo where the center of attention is beautifully decked out in red and portrayed entirely in color - with every thing else in b&w. Now check the above photo and note that Clinton B. is the center of attention with the colored features being ensnared in a circle around him. So, my question is: how did Alfie Goodrich (the photographer of the first photo) put his focal point, and only his focal point, in color? (Must be software out there that makes that an easy option, right? Picasa helped me with my focal point.)

Surely Alfie didn't think this was the last second shot that was so highly contested... this is obviously a free throw.

I didnt shoot the basketball photo :-) Mine is the one of the lady in a kimono that Michael linked to in the post. And, Mike, please by all means use the photo on the page if you want to. Maybe the point you are trying to make might be clearer.

The answer: two layers, one mono and one colour. The very neatly erase the top mono layer to expose the colour underneath. The reverse way I used to do it in the darkroom, when it was all about painting the colour on to the print.

Tks, Alfie. I ruled that out as a way to do that because of the painstaking exactness required. Will have to try that out. And tks for the permission - will post it in a current blog...)
