The Lions won on a last second two point shot by Patrick Bowling that was called a three point shot, 44-43. Eric and I were among the confused at the end of the game - we both clearly saw a two point effort go through the hoop, a shot that would have tied the score at 43. But then I saw the refs heading for the exit, heard the Lion fans roar it's approval, and waited for the score board to register the two points. Wasn't going to happen cause one of the refs had called it a three point shot. The score board, at least five minutes after the end of the game, finally displayed the final score, 44-43, a change from the 41-43 score in favor of the home team. Wonderful first half for the Cougars as they completely throttled the Lions and took an 18-11 lead into the locker room, a seven point lead that could have been as much as 13 but for the two three point shots made by the Lions in the final minute before the half, one of which was a last second 25 footer. Wonderful second half for the Lions as they completely took over the pace of the game during the third quarter and hit shots that brought them back into the game. The fouth quarter was a see-saw agffair with both teams displaying great hustle and pretty darn good shooting, at least from the field (both teams ended up shooting around 50% from the field but were dismal from the foul line, each team taking 14 shots and making only five - ND, and six -L). Great fun, especially since I was sitting over on the ND side of the arena (with Eric) cheering with the fans on the other side. Three cheers for the Lions.

Update 11:29pm: Just watched the WTWO highlights of the game. They had film of Bowling taking that last second shot but did not show the all important floor position and feet. Oh well. Bet something else will surface showing exactly where the shot originated.

Update 7:03am Saturday: Here's the link to the write-up in the Washington Times-Herald. No Patrick Bowling shot photo.

Update 10pm Saturday: Here's the video from a post at hardwood portal. It should have been called a 2 poing shot and gone into ot. Oh well...
