Monochrome Maniacs: Winter Panes

We've had a little cold here in the Midwest these last several days. Boggs Lake froze over and bucked and heaved along the shoreline. Photo - click to enlarge - is for Monochrome Monday and more of the Maniac offerings for this week can be found here.

That is a fascinating shot, Michael - really brings home the nature of the cold you are suffering.

That is such a cool shot, almost like shards of glass.

Holy cow! It sure has been cold where you are. That's a LOT of ice.

Wow... a regular Fortress of Solitude thing you have going here! I wasn't sure at first if this was ice or broken window glass (but it could've been the title that suggested that).

The cold finally broke here last night on the heels of a southwesterly airflow. Hope you guys will get a break soon if you haven't already!

What a landscape of ice! The photo suggests a mini world of towers all in ice! Fascinating!

"Bucked and heaved", very clean discription! Perfect for this picture.

Looks like a modern art sculpture...my hat's off to you for being able to live up there in winter...

A very nice shot! I could almost feel the sharpness of the ice crystals.

Because you asked (smile), I just left some instructions on how I added color to the black and white photo on my page.

I couldn't think of what your photo reminded me of earlier. Now I remember. Superman's cave where it was full of crystals and he spoke with his father (smile).

Wow, that ice looks just like broken glass. That must have been some kind of bucking and heaving.

If I were not in the middle of this arctic blast, I might have thought this was a picture of broken glass. Very nice use of this miserably cold weather.

Incredibly beautiful photo. I remember some years ago seeing an animated film called "Titan A.E." There was a section set in an ice-field in space, floating transparent blue shards. I don't remember much of the film, but I remember the beauty of the ice-field. You've captured it here.

Great shot, Michael! This is one of those that is definitely best in black and white!
