In yesterday's local golf stories:
-Word out of Eagle View is that Scottie Arthur, with darkness descending and using a bright pink golf ball, buried a putt on the third playoff hole to give his team sole possession of fourth place in the Mike Arvin fund raising scramble for Loogootee softball. First place went to the Potts Team, not the first or last time we will see that combination (Mark, Sam, Greg, Joe for starters) walk away with the top spot.
-Larry Hembree finished up at Lakeview and immediately went north to Eagle View, or I am assuming he did as there was a message at the clubhouse for him wondering where he was. Larry's comment when he received the message: "I have another 18 holes to play?!" We were all drained from the excitement of the skins match and the unexpectedly hot and humid weather.
College Football
-In reading about the Irish win, I learned that they avoided tying for the worst losing streak in Irish history. That distinction remains with the squad that played in the fall of 1960, winners of their first and last games of the season and losers of the eight in between. Hmmm, fall of 1960; that would be my senior year. I had forgotten that though I did remember that our four year class was the very first to graduate with a losing football record (like that really matters).
-New power teams to move up in the rankings with more upsets yesterday. How about South Florida, Boston College, California. And is this the week that Illinois and Indiana get into the top twenty? Love the upsets. Did watch the LSU-Florida game last night, a goodie.
The world turns. Time for me to go have breakfast and see what's happening with Nixon in his very last days in the White House. It's lovely out there so go golf, it's good for you.
