Eight Random Facts

Hmmmm, I've been tagged by Marty Bird at Technology, Marketing and Birds to provide eight random facts about myself. Hmmm....

Here are the rules for Eight Random Facts:
  1. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
  2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
  3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
  4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
And here are the eight random facts about me:

1. I was in Vietnam in the Spring of 1965 and have become a radical hater of war not only because of that experience and the resultant history of Vietnam but also because of the efforts of daughter Danielle in writing a research paper while in college - she came down and interviewed me about Vietnam and that made me rethink that whole experience (we were the white knights, weren't we?).
2. I have a lot of close relatives including four children and seven brothers and sisters.
3. I've been married to the same woman for 40 something years and yes it does seem like just yesterday that we said I do to each other (or the priest) out there in Boise, Idaho.
4. I was born in Brooklyn and grew up to be a hugh fan of the Cubbies and especially Ernie "lets-play-two" Banks.
5. While in the US Navy in the early '60's, I sailed all over the Far East and had the good fortune to have a wife, Diane, and then two children, Miki and Marty, homeported with me in Yokusuka.
6. I've come late to a passion and love of the game of golf and I have Diane to thank for that as she gifted me a set of clubs when I turned 50.
7. I became and remain a hugh fan of Tiger Woods after spending some five hours on a Sunday afternoon back in '95 (?) watching a couple of teenagers trade punches playing 36 holes of golf.
8. I became a writer the first time I picked up a pencil or a crayola and have a guy by the name of Bruce Robbins to thank for helping me become aware of that (when I was taking graduate courses at IU in the late '80's).
9. I traded a corporate existence in Southern California for the simplicity of rustic living in southern Indiana and have only rued that decision some two or three times in the 30 some years since.
10. I did more than my share of killing when living that rustic life as we raised what we ate. Now local spiders and wasps and other critters are considered little buddies, fellow life forms sharing just a moment of time and place with the likes of me.

So there they are. That was fun. Guess Marty's Bo is going to have to bear the burden of all that tagging. Oops, that's not eight random facts, doofus. Oh well. Take two to grow on.
