Mid Week Follies

Still dry out here at the golf course and lots of good scores are being posted. The Potts brothers, Joe and Greg, just turned in 37's. Greg hit the ball well today and gives credit to the clubs, Marks.

Phil Hardwick brought in the boxes of sweet rolls last night. He retired from USG and then opened a donut shop in Washington, going on three years now. He's lost weight so he obviously is not tasting his very tasty goodies. Or else it's all those early hours he's keeping that has slimmed him down.

At home, Diane and I started a movie this afternoon. Diane's selection and yes another one of those with subtitles, this one from Spain. More on it later after we finish it tonight once darkness comes and the golf course goes to sleep.

Is the world getting on without us paying much attention? Spent part of my day with TR - he's in the Badlands right now and has just finished a hunting trip. He is overly proud of his killing accomplishments. Great White Hunter. He did enjoy himself up there in the Badlands, recovering from the death of his precious wife (in childbearing) and also of his mother, the two of them dying in a span of three or four days if I remember correctly. He invested heavily in the cattle business and was at it for three years; don't know how it comes out yet.

Saw that the Cavs lost again last night. Hmmm, not looking good for LeBron and his buddies.

US Open starts tomorrow. Should be a honey and yes I expect Tiger (and I don't think I'm the only one saying this) to do well. Am sure that the missed cut of a year ago rankles him no end.

Vietnames president to visit Washington - that's cool. We've come a long way and appear to be able to forgive them for whupping our butt. If you know your Vietnamese history, you realize that the United States was just one of a succession of powers that this tiny southeast Asian country had to take to the woodshed to gain their independence. At a terrific cost to them and a much less cost to the invaders.

If you haven't played your round yet today, there's still time and the evening is lovely. Tomorrow the seniors take another crack at all the goodies out here on the greensward. The seniors love this kind of weather: the ball runs forever and ever on those dry and hard fairways. Expect Eric to make the pin placements somewhat challenging. Not to US Open specifications, but close? Nah...
