Barry Bonds and Other Items of Note

Sports

Looking for an article by Jane Meyer in The New Yorker titled The Black Sites and came across this article by Roger Angell on Barry Bonds' homerun that made him King of Swat. Angell has been writing for a long long time and is always worth the read. Largely a report of his viewing the historic moment but also some pithy comments on Selig and the murmurings of the media.

Government and Politics

Jane Meyer's The Black Sites will give you a fairly detailed 'rendering' of the way our CIA has been operating since 9/11/01. Not pretty. We have in effect adopted the actions and activities that we have condemned in the past. We torture; we've made a science of it, have perfected the process in breaking a person in a step by step manner. Breakdown is inevitable and predictable. I'm again reminded of the Church Hearings in the '70's that brought to light the actions of the CIA (and FBI) that were found to be despicable and unlawful. Certainly the day will come when what we have been doing these past few years will be fully exposed and broadly condemned by Americans, something which the rest of the world has already done.

Diane's heading out to the golf course for a round of golf with Pam. Weather's just about perfect. You had best hie yourself out there and try and get that new career low round under your belt.
