Hot Politics on a Steamy Tuesday

On Politics

-Newt Gringrich is hot: Via dKos, Newt made three points in a recent speech (I paraphrase): We're losing the phony war on terrorism; Republicans don't know how to govern; we need a Republican who can tell the truth. Newt, baby, me thinks someone is going to show you the back door, start calling you a traitor, and ban you from ever even looking at a Republican again. You are definitely a very bad boy.

-Basra is hot from more than just the summer sun: In Iraq, we learn from this front page article from WAPO, that "...As British forces pull back from Basra in southern Iraq, Shiite militias there have escalated a violent battle against each other for political supremacy and control over oil resources...." Me thinks this is just a precursor of what is going to happen throughout Iraq when we finally start pulling our forces. The Iraqi way of settling differences? Duke it out and let the best man be the one left standing. And the prize here? Control of Basra which just happens to be "...Home to two-thirds of Iraq's oil resources..., the country's sole dependable outlet for exporting oil, with a capacity of 1.8 million barrels a day...." Let me see now, with a barrel of oil going for $72 today, that would be $129,600,000 a day. A day? Yes, a day. Hmmm, maybe it is all about the oil. (Newt suggested the first step in the war against terrorism should be a viable plan to get us away from our middle eastern oil dependency.)

-via TPMCafe, this bit on Hillary who is preferred overwhelming over Barrack in recent poll dealing with foreign policy. Me thinks it's still way to early but for Hillary lovers another good sign.

Enough for now.
